Priyanka Gandhi takes oath as LS MP after big victory from Wayanad

New Delhi- Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was sworn in as a Lok Sabha MP on Thursday after her landslide victory against Kerala’s Wayanad in a bypoll.

The 52-year-old, who joins his mother Sonia and brother Rahul as MPs in what is a rare instance of three members of a family being brought together in Parliament, spoke in Hindi while holding a copy of the Constitution shortly after the House convened. .

Ravindra Chavan (Cong), who won from Nanded bypoll, also took oath in Marathi in the name of God. The bypass was necessitated following the recent death of his father Vasantrao Chavan.

Priyanka Gandhi entered active politics in 2019 and was later appointed as the general secretary of the Congress. Five years later, Priyanka Gandhi begins her journey as the people’s elected official.

With a winning margin of over 4.1 lakh votes, she surpassed the tally of her brother Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad in Kerala.

Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into Parliament comes at a difficult time for the party, shaken by electoral defeats in Haryana and Maharashtra. It would be interesting to see if she is able to give the grand old party a much-needed boost and help put it back on the electoral path.

Often drawing comparisons with her grandmother Indira Gandhi for their similarity in appearance and manner of speaking, Priyanka Gandhi has been the party’s go-to campaigner since she entered active politics and even before that when she campaigned for her mother Sonia and her brother Rahul. .

Wayanad Congress leaders on Wednesday handed over the election certificate of the Wayanad parliamentary by-election to Priyanka Gandhi and conveyed their best wishes to her.

Priyanka Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha poll on Saturday with a thumping margin of over four lakh votes, defeating Sathyan Mokeri of the CPI(M)-led LDF.
