In Ayigya, Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region, a vengeful mob violently attacked five people, including three immigration officers, causing injuries.

A two-storey Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) building was invaded by a mob on the evening of Tuesday, November 26. The crowd was apparently led by an officer’s neighbor.

Armed with machetes and other weapons, the attackers attempted to burn the building and its inhabitants alive.

Part of the building was set on fire, witnesses said, and the gang also took cell phones and an undetermined amount of money.

The attack is believed to be the result of a long-running property dispute. According to reports, the neighbor, who claims ownership of the building, pressured authorities to evict them. Despite three different court rulings in favor of the Ghana Immigration Service, the neighbor allegedly resorted to violence and intimidation.

Seven people were arrested in connection with the attack, including the main suspect, according to Citi News sources.

Some witnesses, speaking anonymously, provided their accounts of the incident, while the immigration officials involved declined to comment.

Due to ongoing hostilities between the parties, the land dispute is still ongoing.
