Priyanka takes oath as MP

NEW DELHI: Starting it parliamentary tripWayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday took oath as a Lok Sabha MP with a copy of the Constitution in hand, as has been the trend among INDIA bloc members in the 18th House.
As the House began, Priyanka and Nanded MP Ravindra Chavan, who won the poll for the seat that fell vacant after the death of his father Vasantrao Chavan, were called to take oath, with Speaker Om Birla presiding.
In the morning, Priyanka met Congress members in the party’s parliamentary office in the old Parliament building, who, led by Rahul Gandhi, then accompanied her to the House. The Congress benches chanted “jodo jodo, Bharat jodo” as she made her way to the podium for the brief opening ritual.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka’s mother Sonia Gandhi, her husband Robert Vadra, son Raihan, daughter Miraya and other family members watched the oath taking from the galleries. Embraced by Rahul, Priyanka then took her place in the fourth row of the Congress benches.
Later, the House was adjourned amid continued opposition protests against Adani’s indictment and Sambhal police firing.
