Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Congress leader and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, received a notice of Rs 850 crore from the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS) following her husband’s claims about his battle with cancer stage 4.

The CCS demanded an apology from Sidhu and threatened legal action against Kaur unless she presented evidence within seven days to support her husband’s controversial claims.

The controversy began when Sidhu credited a strict diet, including natural remedies such as neem, turmeric, lemon, water and beetroot, with helping his wife beat her cancer.

Sidhu’s statement, made in an interview, sparked significant backlash from medical professionals, including oncologists, who strongly disagreed with the unverified claims.

Chhattisgarh Civil Society Officer Dr Kuldeep Solanki issued a statement highlighting the dangers of promoting such unproven methods. The company argued that a false statement about cancer treatment could endanger the health of other patients, according to the Business Standard report.

Dr Solanki further warned that false claims about alternative cancer treatments could cause confusion and encourage cancer patients to stop taking their prescribed medications, thereby putting their lives at risk.

Clarification of Navjot Sidhu issues

Responding to the controversy, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday clarified his earlier comments. The Congress leader released a video message on social media, assuring the public that the diet followed by his wife was implemented in consultation with medical professionals. He stressed that the diet was not an alternative to medical treatment but rather a complementary supportive measure to conventional therapies.

Sidhu explained that his wife’s treatment included surgeries, chemotherapy and hormone therapy, with diet serving as an additional “facilitator” in the treatment process.

Sidhu added, “I mean a doctor is like God to me and doctors have always been my priority. I have a doctor (Navjot Kaur Sidhu) at home. Everything we have done has been done with consultation with doctors as part of a collaborative process. »

The former Punjab Congress chief also shared a detailed diet plan, referencing the research of Nobel laureate Yoshinori Ohsumi and the principles of Indian Ayurveda in his wife’s healing journey.

On November 21, Sidhu had announced in Amritsar that his wife had been declared cancer-free. He credited lifestyle and diet changes as crucial factors in his recovery. However, leading oncologists at Mumbai’s Tata Memorial Hospital continued to warn against resorting to such unproven remedies.
