Both the VCs cited personal reasons in their resignation letters to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya for not being able to continue in their respective positions.

Vice-chancellor of Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa, Ajmer Singh Malik, and VC of Chaudhary Ranbir Singh University in Jind, Ranpal Singh, resigned from their posts before the end of their tenure.

Both the VCs cited personal reasons in their resignation letters to Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya for not being able to continue in their respective positions. The governor accepted their resignation.

Ranpal Singh was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of CRSU on June 10, 2022 for three years and he left the post seven months before the end of his tenure. Sirsa University VC Ajmer Singh Malik submitted his resignation 26 days before the end of his three-year tenure.

Both Malik and Ranpal are considered close to the Chautala family. “Both were nominated with the support of Dushyant Chautala and after the JJP was decimated in the recent assembly elections, the BJP government asked both men to resign. In a similar exercise, earlier this month, a health facility director was also asked to resign before the end of his term,” according to informed sources.

While HT’s calls and text messages to the two VCs went unanswered, their close aides, pleading anonymity, confirmed that the duo had been asked to step down.

A senior BJP leader, who did not wish to be named, said the VCs and registrars of many universities will be changed as the tenure of some of them has ended or is about to end . “The functioning of many venture capital companies and registrars is not up to par,” added the executive.
