KARACHI: A damaged oil pipeline caused major traffic disruptions near Sea View in Karachi on Sunday morning, sparking security concerns in the area.

The leak, reported at 6 a.m., occurred in a pipeline operated by Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL), according to SSP South.

The spilled fuel oil spilled onto a service road and seeped into a nearby residential complex, increasing residents’ concerns.

Refinery operations were immediately halted and oil pumping was suspended to prevent further leaks, refinery sources said.

However, authorities acted quickly to contain the situation and the pipeline was repaired within hours.

PRL general manager Zahid Mir said a team was dispatched to repair the leaking pipeline on the Sea View service road soon after the oil spill was reported.

PRL and Defense Housing Authority (DHA) personnel were deployed to the site to oversee repairs and ensure public safety.

Cleanup crews are reportedly working to remove spilled oil from areas affected by the seepage.

The incident disrupted traffic on Sea View Road, leading to temporary closures and diversions. Commuters experienced delays as authorities cordoned off sections of road to facilitate repair work and prevent accidents.

Zahid Mir confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the leak had also been opened.

This incident follows a similar incident in October.

On October 12, a leak occurred in Khayaban-e-Sehar, DHA, where a pipeline from the National Oil Refinery ruptured, submerging a street in fuel oil, according to a report in The News.

During this incident, police responded quickly by cordoning off surrounding streets and warning residents to stay away from the area. Efforts to repair the pipeline continued late into the night.
