Perhaps no NFL team had more question marks heading into the 2024 season than the Philadelphia Eagles after losing six of their last seven games, including in the Wild Card Round, to end their 2023 campaign.

Those questions went nowhere after an inconsistent 2-2 start, but a “galvanizing moment” involving head coach Nick Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts in Week 5 changed the game and led to a seven-fight winning streak. .

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport provided details Sunday, noting that Sirianni and Hurts were in constant contact during the bye week with Zoom calls, phone calls and in-person meetings.

“According to multiple sources, they spent hours each day breaking down the team, focusing on offense, spotlighting leadership and addressing any issues,” Rapoport wrote while adding that another source used the description “galvanizing.”

It wasn’t just them, as assistant coaches such as offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and star running back Saquon Barkley were also involved in some calls and meetings. There were broken X’s and O’s, tough questions about leadership and bonding in general, and the team seems to have come out the other side much better.

Philadelphia is now 9-2 and three games ahead of the Washington Commanders in the NFC East loss column. One of those seven straight wins was against the Commanders, and Hurts and Co. have likely turned their attention to the NFC’s No. 1 seed and the first-round bye that comes with it.

The Eagles are chasing the Detroit Lions 11-1, but just one misstep from the NFC North team could open the door.

The offense has only clicked since the bye week and is third in the NFL in yards per game (389.1). Barkley looks like a potential MVP candidate with 1,649 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games, which has made life easier for Hurts.

Opposing defenses have to pick their poison with Barkley and Hurts able to make plays with their legs and receivers such as AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith on the outside, and the result is a largely unstoppable offense.

Sunday’s road game against fellow Super Bowl contender the Baltimore Ravens will present quite a test, but the Eagles have only risen to the occasion since the bye encounters.
