Margot Robbie thought she was going to be ‘arrested’ for an impromptu scene from The Wolf of Wall Street

Margot Robbie remembers being afraid of being arrested after deviating from the script during her final audition for the film. Wolf of Wall Street.

The 34-year-old Australian actor, who starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-nominated comedy thriller, recounted the memory during a recent episode of the Talking pictures podcast.

Speaking about one of the scenes where her character called Jordan Belfort, DiCaprio’s stockbroker, she remembers walking up to him and thinking, “I could totally kiss Leonardo DiCaprio, and it would be awesome.” I can’t wait to tell all my friends.

“And then I thought… no. And I just punched him in the face,” Robbie said, recounting that “it was dead silence for what seemed like forever but was probably three seconds.

“Then they burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard they said “that was awesome.”

She remembers thinking at the time, “I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure it’s assault, battery.” Not only will you never work again, but you’ll actually go to jail for it, you idiot. And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have made it lighter.

Robbie was just 22 when she landed her role as Naomi Lapaglia, based on Nadine Macaluso, the ex-wife of the real Belfort, in the 2013 film.

She previously explained that she wasn’t prepared for the aftermath of the fame she experienced after the film, calling it one of her “lowest moments.”

Reflecting on the intimacy she lost after the film, Robbie said Vanity Fair: “Something was happening at the beginning and it was pretty horrible, and I remember saying to my mom, ‘I don’t think I want to do this.’

“And she just looked at me, completely emotionless, and said, ‘Honey, I think it’s too late.’ not has.’ That’s when I realized the only solution was to move forward.

Robbie has since become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors, starring in films such as barbie (2023), Birds of prey (2020) and Me, Tonya (2017).

Elsewhere on the Talking pictures podcast, she expressed surprise that her 2022 film Babylon ” flopped, saying she “still can’t understand why people hated it.”

“I love it,” she said of Damien Chazelle’s famous box office failure. “I know I’m biased because I’m very close to the project and I obviously believe in it, but I still can’t understand why people hated it.

“I wonder if in 20 years people will say, ‘Wait, Babylon Didn’t it go well at the time? Like when you hear that Shawshank Redemption It was a failure at the time and you ask yourself, “How is this possible?” »
