Doctors have provided an update on Edoardo Bove’s condition after the Fiorentina player collapsed during Sunday’s match against Inter Milan.

Midfielder Bove collapsed and was carried off the field in an ambulance during his team’s Serie A match against Milan at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Bove, 22, went down unhurt in the 16th minute, with referee Daniele Doveri stopping the match to allow him to seek treatment.

The players and staff formed a wall around Bové while the medical staff took care of him. Several players from both sides were seen crying in heartbreaking scenes.

The match was quickly suspended and the players returned to their locker rooms while Bove was transported out of the stadium and to the hospital.

Fiorentina released a statement detailing how Bove was “currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalized in intensive care.”

Bove was taken to hospital in an ambulance, but was later reported to be conscious and breathing.

The 22-year-old Italian international has represented his country up to under-21 level.

The club specifies that “the first cardiological and neurological examinations carried out excluded acute lesions of the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system”. Now, doctors have taken stock of his state of health.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, after arriving at the Careggi hospital in Florence, Bove regained consciousness and doctors assured that “his life was not in danger”.

Among the first to arrive at the hospital was captain Cristiano Biraghi. He was joined by Martinez Quarta. Danilo Cataldi, who was one of the first players to help Bove when he collapsed on the pitch, also went to hospital.

Rolando Mandragora, Pietro Terracciano, Luca Ranieri and Dodo were also seen in hospital – while several other players visited the medical center to show their support.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also revealed that Bove’s parents and girlfriend were all present that evening and later went to the hospital to visit the Fiorentina star.

They reported that father Giovanni and his girlfriend Martina immediately went to the hospital. Meanwhile, his mother Tanya collapsed inside the stadium after the incident.

After regaining consciousness, she then went to the hospital accompanied by the mayor of Florence, Sara Funaro.

Following the incident, Fiorentina’s full statement read: “Fiorentina and the Commisso family thank Viola fans, clubs, supporters and the world of football and sport for the support given to Edoardo Bove and his loved ones.”

Players from both teams were left shell-shocked on the field as medical staff tended to Bove.

Fiorentina had said in its previous statement: “ACF Fiorentina and Careggi University Hospital announce that footballer Edoardo Bove, who was treated on the field following loss of consciousness during the Fiorentina-Inter match, is currently under pharmacological sedation and hospitalized in intensive care.

“The Viola footballer arrived at the emergency room in stable hemodynamic conditions and the first cardiological and neurological examinations carried out excluded acute lesions of the central nervous system and cardio-respiratory system. Edoardo Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours.

Inter Milan released a statement shortly after the incident on Sunday afternoon, saying: “The match has been suspended due to a medical emergency.”

Giuseppe Marotta, Inter president, spoke about the incident shortly after it took place. He said: “Inter and the entire football world express their closeness to Bove’s family and Fiorentina.

The Serie A match was suspended immediately after Bove collapsed on the pitch.

Later that night, Fiorentina fans displayed a banner outside Careggi Hospital in a show of support.

“The decision to postpone the match was spontaneous on everyone’s part, we are a community, all the players and even the referee were emotionally involved. We hope there is nothing serious.

While a Serie A statement said: “The match will not resume and is postponed to a date to be determined. With the game interrupted, Bove collapsed to the ground and the situation immediately appeared very serious. An ambulance took the player away, we are waiting for news.

Bove is on loan at Fiorentina from Roma and has made 14 appearances to date. He scored his first goal for his current club against his parent team in October.

An Italian international, Bove has played for his country at every age group up to the Under-21s, but is yet to be called up to the senior set-up.
