Spotify Wrapped 2024 is almost here: here’s what we know and what fans have discovered

PUBLISHED on December 2, 2024

When will Spotify Wrapped 2024 be released?

Spotify has yet to announce an official release date for Wrapped 2024, but given its history, we can make an educated guess. In the past, Wrapped has dropped either in late November or early December. Last year, Spotify released Wrapped on November 29, a day earlier than November 30 the previous year. Typically, users gain access through a pop-up in the app and the Wrapped package appears as a slideshow, perfect for sharing via Instagram Stories.

Looking at past trends, Wrapped has historically gone down on the last Wednesday in November or the first Wednesday in December. Here’s a look at release dates from previous years:

  • 2023: November 29 (Wednesday)
  • 2022: November 30 (Wednesday)
  • 2021: December 1 (Wednesday)

Based on this model, it is likely that Spotify Wrapped 2024 will be available on Wednesday, December 4. Although Spotify has yet to confirm the exact date, this estimate lines up well with past release schedules.

Will there be new features in Spotify Wrapped 2024?

It’s still unclear if any new features will be added to Wrapped this year. In the past, Spotify has introduced new elements to its Wrapped packages. For example, last year’s Wrapped featured a “Sound Town” that connected users with their most listened to artists and how those artists were streaming in other cities. In 2019, Wrapped took a look back at user listening trends over a decade.

Recently, Spotify shared a teaser video on Instagram showing its logo transforming to represent various albums released in 2024. The caption read: “This year there were multitudes. Your Wrapped too. Coming soon.” This suggests that Wrapped 2024 could have a new twist, but for now, fans will have to wait for official details.

Spotify’s ‘cheat months’ packed

Social media users often joke about how they intentionally wait for Spotify to stop tracking their data so they can enjoy music that they might be embarrassed about if it ended up in their Wrapped. A recent post on X (formerly Twitter) from a user said, “My Spotify Wrapped is going to be so embarrassing this year,” and it quickly received over 200,000 likes. In fact, last year the Washington Post called November and December “cheat months,” where users can listen to holiday tunes and stream them freely without worrying about them appearing in their Wrapped.

The Evolution of Spotify Wrapped

Spotify launched its Wrapped marketing campaign in 2016, and in 2019 it began offering users Instagram Story-ready graphics. Since then, Wrapped has become a major success, with over 156 million users accessing their Wrapped plan in 2022, a significant increase from 120 million users the previous year. Social media analytics company SproutSocial reported that there were 400 million posts on Spotify Wrapped on previous.

Every year, Spotify introduces new features for Wrapped. In 2023, users were assigned a “Sound Town” based on their musical tastes, leading to viral discussions about cities like Burlington, Vermont and Cambridge, Massachusetts, which appeared to have large numbers of listeners LGBTQ+. In 2022, Wrapped went even further by assigning users “listening personality types” based on the Meyers-Briggs personality test.

Spotify recently released a teaser video about X, showing nine different versions of its iconic logo in different designs and colors. Fans quickly analyzed these logos and believe they have deciphered the references hidden in each of them.
