Murder suspect called 911 after shooting unarmed neighbor in Fort Worth: affidavit

Murder suspect called 911 after shooting unarmed neighbor in Fort Worth: affidavit

The man accused of killing his neighbor in Fort Worth on Nov. 24 told police he shot the victim after he was punched in the face, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Caspian Sanders Swinney, 26, called 911 after the shooting to report that he had shot his unarmed neighbor, according to the affidavit.

Swinney told police that Oscar Alberto “Beto” Lopez, also 26, punched him in the face, according to the warrant.

Lopez’s family said they believe the shooting happened after an argument over loud music began. Lopez had just returned home after picking up food for his wife and children, according to the family.

Police arrived at the scene in the 1200 block of East Davis Avenue and found Lopez lying in his driveway with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, authorities said. Investigators found four shell casings fired from a 9mm handgun, according to a police report.

A 26-year-old father of two was fatally shot outside his Fort Worth home on the night of November 24, 2024. Two fundraisers were held to help cover Oscar “Beto” Lopez’s funeral costs and provide a support for his family.

Another neighbor told police he heard gunshots, looked in that direction and saw a man matching Swinney’s description in a “shooting position” between the two houses, according to the mandate.

Swinney was arrested at the scene, but suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Swinney requested an attorney shortly after being released from the hospital, police said.

Swinney was booked into the Tarrant County Jail on murder charges and was released on $250,000 bail on Nov. 28, according to jail records.
