ALAPPUZHA: Five medical students were killed and two other students were seriously injured after their car collided with a KSRTC bus at Kalarcode here on Monday evening. All of them were first year MBBS students of Vandanam government medical college and they were apparently going to see a movie.
Preliminary reports said seven students were traveling in the car, but unconfirmed reports put the number of occupants at 11. The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. and it was raining heavily at the time.

The bus was heading towards Kayamkulam from Vyttila in Ernakulam. According to available details, the Chevrolet Tavera coming from the opposite direction collided with the bus while overtaking another vehicle. The students were removed from the vehicle after smashing it.
A few passengers sitting in the front seat of the bus were also slightly injured in the accident. They were admitted to Alappuzha General Hospital.
Vehicle traffic on the road was disrupted following the accident. Sources in the motor vehicle department said heavy rain and poor vision could have led to the accident.
