Gaurav Khanna, who was loved by audiences for his role as Anuj in Star Plus’ Anupamaa, has officially left the show. The actor stayed on the show for three years but decided to say goodbye to his character after a 15-year time skip.

Gaurav has not been seen in Anupamaa since the October 2024 time jump, and his re-entry into the drama remains a mystery. With his departure, Gaurav joined the long list of actors who have left Anupamaa in the past few months, including Sudhanshu Pandey, Madalsa Sharma and Nidhi Shah.

Gaurav Khanna confirmed that he will not return to Anupamaa in an interview with ETimes. The actor revealed that there were initially plans for Anuj’s re-entry into the storyline after a 15-year time gap; however, things could not come to fruition and hence he decided to continue his career.

“People are constantly asking me about my return to Anupamaa. Rajan sir (producer) had mentioned the possibility of a big comeback for the character, and we waited two months for it to materialize. However, the storyline needed to progress and waiting no longer made sense,” Gaurav said.

“He (Rajan Shahi) also felt that it was time for me to explore something bigger. So, for now, Anuj’s chapter is closed, but I see it as a comma, not a period,” the actor added. However, he further revealed that he could always return if his job time allows. “If the story unfolds and my schedule allows, I would be happy to come back,” he said.

Over the past year, many Anupamaa actors reportedly had issues with the lead actress, Rupali Ganguly, which was also said to be the reason for their departure. Around the same time, rumors of Gaurav Khanna and Rupali feuding were also doing the rounds.

In the interview, Gaurva neither confirmed nor denied his breakup with Rupali and said, “I don’t engage in retaliatory interviews and I don’t respond to rumours. What matters is the work we created together. I have always focused on my craft, and what happens beyond “action” and “editing” is secondary.

Gaurav joined Anupamaa as the charming Anuj Kapadia in 2021. Although he was only supposed to have a three-month appearance on the show, the character immediately became a fan favorite and was promoted to the front row. in Rupali.
