Meerut man sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia

Zaid has been languishing in Jeddah Central Prison since January 15, 2023, after being accused of drug trafficking.

On Tuesday, Mundali police issued a notice/information to the family in Rachauti village, which came as a huge shock to their family. The notice states that if they (their family members) wish to plead, they can contact the Ministry of Interior and the court of Saudi Arabia.

The notice further states that Zaid has been incarcerated in Jeddah Central Prison, Saudi Arabia, since January 15, 2023, after being accused of drug trafficking. The hearing on the case was held at Mecca Criminal Court, where Zaid was sentenced to death.

Kithaur area circle officer Pramod Kumar Singh confirmed that the police had met Zaid’s family and sent them the notice.

Zaid’s younger brother, Mohd Saad, said Zaid went to Saudi Arabia in 2018 and worked as a driver in a company. He had an accident and a local policeman kept him as a driver in exchange for food and other daily necessities.

Saad said his brother was accused of false dealings after he insisted that his employer allow him to return to India.
