Devendra Fadnavis is expected to take oath as Maharashtra Chief Minister tomorrow.

The name of the senior BJP leader was finalized in the BJP central committee meeting held on Wednesday.

Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and former Chief Minister were all present at the BJP core committee meeting.

Fadnavis is expected to take oath tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.

But one detail of Fadnavis’ invitation to take oath caught everyone’s attention.

Let’s take a closer look:

What’s different?

According to News18the invitation refers to Fadnavis as “Devendra Sarita Gangadharrao Fadnavis”.

He is using his mother’s name – the first time Fadnavis has done so in his political career.

According to the media, this would be a nod to Sarita, who is a strong supporter of her son.

“Everyone in the party wants him to become the chief minister again. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi considers him a son,” Sarita had said.

According to India time, Fadnavis, during his previous swearing-in ceremonies in 2014 and 2019, used ‘Gangadhar’ as his middle name in the invitation as well as the election affidavit.

It was the name of his future father, Gangadhar Fadnavis, who was part of the Jan Sangh and the BJP.

According to NDTVGangadhar, a member of the state legislative council, died of cancer when Fadnavis was a teenager.

Fadnavis will take oath as Maharashtra chief minister on Thursday, after Governor CP Radhakrishnan invited him to form the new government in the state.

Two deputy chief ministers, including NCP chief Ajit Pawar, will also take oath on Thursday at the ceremony to be held at the sprawling Azad Maidan in south Mumbai in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A delegation from the ruling Mahayuti alliance met the governor at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, soon after Fadnavis was unanimously elected leader of the state’s BJP legislative party.

At the legislature party meeting held at Vidhan Bhawan, former Gujarat CM and BJP central watcher Vijay Rupani announced that Fadnavis (54) had been unanimously elected as the BJP legislature party leader.

Speaking at the meeting, BJP Central Observer and Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the “dual engine government” of the State and the Center would boost development.

Fadnavis thanked the BJP legislators for their confidence, adding that the ruling Mahayuti alliance’s landslide victory in the November 20 assembly elections was due to the ‘Ek hai toh safe hai’ mantra given by Prime Minister Modi.

At the Vidhan Bhawan meeting, senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil proposed Fadnavis’ name as the legislature party leader.

Fadnavis’ name was finalized for the top post at the state BJP core committee meeting held here ahead of the legislature party meeting.

Speaking to reporters at Raj Bhavan, Fadnavis said, “I met Eknath Shinde yesterday and told him that Shiv Sena and Mahayuti members want him to be with us in this government. I have full confidence that he will be with us.

Shinde was camping in Thane citing health problems, sparking speculation about internal discord within the Mahayuti alliance.

However, he returned to Mumbai on Tuesday.

“I am happy that at this place around two-and-a-half years ago, Fadnavis recommended my name to become CM. Now, we have given a recommendation letter from Shiv Sena for Fadnavis to become CM. This government is being formed in a healthy atmosphere. I congratulate Devendra ji and wish him all the best,” Shinde said.

The BJP achieved remarkable success in the November 20 elections in Maharashtra, securing 132 of the state’s 288 Assembly seats, its best performance in the state so far.

Along with its allies Shiv Sena and NCP, the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition has an overwhelming majority of 230 seats.
