KLUANG: A 33-year-old aerospace engineer was killed in an accident involving a trailer just two days after another trailer accident claimed the life of a young woman in Penang.

Kluang OCPD Deputy Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi Husin said the accident that occurred yesterday at km 69.5 of the North-South Expressway involved a trailer that was carrying a container full of fertilizer which crashed. crushed against the guardrail in the middle of the highway.

“The caravan was heading towards Johor Baru from Kluang,” he said.

The 40-year-old driver of the trailer lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the highway barrier.

The trailer entered the opposite lane and overturned, he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the rear of the trailer was then hit by a car traveling on the track while a motorcycle driven by the engineer crashed into the container.

“The motorcyclist suffered serious head and body injuries and died instantly.

“Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man who was driving the car suffered injuries to his legs and body, while his 26-year-old wife suffered head injuries.

“Their one-year-old son was also in the car but was unharmed,” he said.

Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi said the truck driver, who was also unhurt, was arrested and is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Traffic Act. motor transport in 1987 for causing death by careless driving.

In a statement released later in the day, Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi said that during interrogation, the truck driver claimed one of his front tires burst while he was traveling from Port Klang to Pasir Gudang.

“According to his statement that we recorded, the right front tire of his trailer suddenly burst, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and cause it to veer into the opposite lane.

“We also conducted a urine test on him and the result came back negative,” he said, adding that a remand application would be filed for further investigation.

Superintendent Nik Mohd Azmi also revealed that the engineer killed in the accident was identified as Muhammad Adib Adnan, from Selangor who worked in Singapore.

The offense is punishable by imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine of up to RM50,000 and disqualification from driving for 10 to 20 years.

The accident occurred just two days after another incident involving a trailer in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old woman and injury to a 25-year-old man.

In the tragedy in Penang on Wednesday, the deceased, identified as Lee Zi Rou, was killed instantly when a container being transported on a trailer overturned and crushed her car at a traffic light junction.

Several other vehicles were also damaged and another driver was injured and taken to hospital.

The injured victim, identified as Tan Chou Theng, 25, was rescued by passers-by.

The 51-year-old trailer driver involved in the Penang incident was also arrested to assist in the investigation under section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act and is on remand for four days in starting Thursday. By VENESA DEVI
