As Yellow stone gearing up for its final act, the drama surrounding Kevin Costner’s sudden departure played out like a gripping Western tale. The actor, who will soon be 70, hinted at serious tensions between him and series creator Taylor Sheridan. The reason? Well, let’s just say things didn’t go as well as expected, and Costner has some serious reservations about how things were handled behind the scenes. Much depends on the future of Yellow stone– and what, if anything, Sheridan”borrowed » of Costner’s own project.

Sometimes the drama behind the scenes is much more entertaining than what appears on screen. And in the case of Yellow stoneKevin Costner’s comments about series creator Taylor Sheridan are proof that not all fireworks take place at the ranch.

Costner, who has been the face of the Dutton family for five seasons, suggested that Sheridan could have “borrowed» a little from his own Western project, Horizon: an American saga (via IndieWire):

I don’t know if there are duplicates. That he had borrowed something, only he would have to admit it.

But Costner wasn’t just airing grievances about scripts or creative overlaps. The heart of the problem appears to lie in the show’s erratic production schedule.

The 69-year-old actor explained that when he first signed on, he agreed to only appear in one season per year. But after helping Yellow stone over five seasons, things have changed. He had a contract for seasons 5, 6 and 7, but quickly became frustrated with the way production was handled.

“They just stopped hitting the mark in their storylines,” Costner said, adding that an entire year of filming took “completely wiped off the map” without any explanation. This kind of disorganization was a turnoff for Costner, who was unwilling to let the chaos continue.

He clarified when asked about the rumors of a falling out with Sheridan.

What was said is so irrelevant. I was only going to do one episode or once a season. And then I helped them and I did five seasons and I contracted literally to do the last three – 5, 6 and 7. They just stopped hitting the mark in their scripts.

He also clarified that Yellow stone had to remain in first place, meaning Sheridan and his team had to meet the terms of their deal before Costner could move on to his passion project, Horizon.

When they were finished, I would do Horizon, not the other way around. It’s that simple.

Now with Horizon being priority, Costner is less sure of returning to Yellow stone. “I know they’ll probably do this without me. he admitted.
