The Summit County Sheriff’s Office stayed busy last week helping with Election Day security, searching the backcountry for an overdue hunter and dealing with children trespassing at a spa .

The following incidents occurred between Tuesday, November 5 and Saturday, November 9, according to the weekly notable call log. released by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday, November 5, a Summit Cove resident contacted animal control for assistance regarding an unknown animal stuck in the chimney. Animal control found two birds in the chimney, one dead and one alive and released into the wild.



Tuesday was also election day. The Summit County Sheriff’s Office Detention Services Division was responsible for the security of county personnel and facilities throughout the election and dedicated several staff members to this purpose. Deputies patrolled polling stations for weeks before Election Day. On Election Day, a team provided security for election judges and clerk and county clerk staff until approximately 2:30 a.m., when all election processes were completed.

Also Tuesday, deputies were called to the Frisco senior center following a disturbance caused by a voter upset that voting was being done on electronic tablets. He was given the opportunity to vote on paper, which he did. The constituent was given information on how to file a formal complaint with the clerk and registrar and left before deputies arrived on site. No crime took place.



On Wednesday, November 6, the Sheriff’s Office said a Denver man threatened to come to Summit High School with a gun and a bomb after he was denied access to tour the facility. The man was reportedly a former student of the school and requested to visit the school several times for an unknown reason. Due to the threat, the high school was placed on secure status for much of the day with deputies stationed at the entrances. Law enforcement received information that led them to believe the man was not in Summit County, but rather in Adams County. Law enforcement arrested the man in Adams County and he was booked into the Summit County Jail without incident.

On Thursday, November 7, a minor at a condo in Keystone reported that a stranger grabbed him because he was standing on a table, making him uncomfortable. Officers responded and found that the juvenile and his friends had entered a hot tub without permission, played and jumped on a coffee table. The man told them to get off and the children allegedly shouted expletives and told him to “force me,” leading the man to pull him from the table. The police spoke with the minor and his parents and confirmed that they did not wish to press charges. The business manager also did not wish to file a complaint for intrusion. The minor and his friends left after being ordered to leave.

On Saturday, November 9, a wife reported that her husband was late from a hunting trip in the Ute Pass area. Officers responded to where the hunters were believed to be, deployed a drone and followed a thermal trail until they located the hunters. Around the same time the hunters were found, the woman called back to inform officers that her husband had contacted her to inform her that he was OK.
