Cheteshwar Pujara feels India should have batted much better on the first day of the pink-ball Test against Australia in Adelaide after the Rohit Sharma-led side were bundled out for just 180. Shubman Gill and KL Rahul put up a 69-run stand, but the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals. During his analysis, Pujara named star batter Virat Kohli who failed to impress as he was dismissed for just 7. Pujara said India should have scored 250-275 on the Adelaide ground and added that even though the Indian bowlers hit the right length, they did it. It doesn’t work well for them.

“I think we could have batted a lot better. It was a toss where we should have got 250-275. So we are 70-80 runs behind. Credit goes to the Australian bowlers for the way they bowled. They Their lengths were much better than those of our bowlers.

“I understand our bowlers tried to bat the same length, which was not the ideal length. But if you look at the length of the Australian bowlers, initially they mixed it up when there was no length. “Help when they started throwing,” Pujara said on Star Sports.

Pujara said India should have worked on building partnerships to remove the threat from Australia’s bowling, but they ended up losing wickets at regular intervals.

“They went back the length. They started bowling between 6 and 8 yards and that’s where we lost a few wickets in the middle order. KL Rahul and Virat, both got two deliveries out back of length. And the line was still just above the 4th stump, which was an ideal line on this pitch.”

“So I realized that I knew we could have batted much better on this pitch, where we had partnerships, but after one partnership we kept losing wickets,” said the Indian team batter from cricket.
