Municipal staff benefit from a salary increase

City of Vernon employees will benefit from a salary increase for three years.

The city and the local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) have ratified a three-year agreement for the period from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2026.

Employees will receive an additional 3% salary increase each year of their tenure, as well as a 4% market adjustment in 2024.

“Council would like to express its gratitude for the hard work of both bargaining teams to conclude negotiations and achieve this reasoned three-year collective agreement,” said Mayor Victor Cumming.

“The agreement strikes a fair and lasting balance between supporting our employees and upholding our responsibility to taxpayers. We value the strong working relationship we share with the union and its members and look forward to continuing to support a resilient and thriving community together.

The agreement also includes some administrative adjustments and updates.

The new agreement adds 0.75% to the City’s property tax increase of 11.06%, including CUPE.
