‘Everyone has to do it…’ Ruben Amorim names non-negotiable name for Man Utd squad, one player didn’t do it against Arsenal

The task at Manchester United when Ruben Amorim arrived was not only to improve results on the pitch, but also to refresh the club’s culture.

What Ruben Amorim did after Ipswich drew in his first game at the helm was a sign of things to come and efforts to establish a culture have begun.

For too long the Man Utd team have been too comfortable with failure and content to be good, not great. This is the change in mentality that Ruben Amorim must make.

Additionally, the connection between Man Utd fans and the players has been uncertain for some time, as they believe the players have thrown another manager under the bus.

In such difficult circumstances, the Man Utd manager has named a non-negotiable solution for his players, which should go some way to solving this problem.

Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd non-negotiable

Amorim spoke to the press ahead of the home game against Nottingham Forest and was as usual, calm and confident.

He spoke about the importance of “running like mad dogs” and impressed upon the players that they wouldn’t win anything without that level of effort.

However, this is something that needs to be done on the field, but what happens off the field is directly related to on-field performance.

This is a subject Amorim is keen to address and when asked about it in the embargoed section of his press conference, he did not try to sugarcoat the subject.

Amorim was asked about players applauding away fans for their support after a tough defeat to Arsenal and a video circulating of Marcus Rashford not doing so.

He replied: “Of course you have to do it, especially when you lose. Not when you win, when you lose. We will do it and everyone must do it. It’s going to be like this.

He points out that when the team wins, it’s automatically a ‘thank you’ for the away fans because they were given a victory, but the traveling support deserves recognition when the team is swept aside.

Not a good look for Marcus Rashford

Rashford was the center of attention at this press conference because, apart from this video of him not recognizing away fans, he was also the subject of questions about his form.

Rashford followed a brace against Everton with a nightmarish sub-appearance against Arsenal and that inconsistency is what is infuriating fans.

The unquestionable ability and potential he showed during his “good” seasons simply hasn’t been seen enough and that’s something he’ll need to address.

As a credit to Amorim’s man management, he didn’t take the bait and spread the responsibility across the whole team who need to improve and not just Rashford.

Yet the striker’s exorbitant contract, combined with his inconsistencies, means he will always be under the scanner after one or two poor performances.

It’s not always in his hands because things don’t go your way all the time on the field, but he can at least do things like acknowledge support outside so as not to provide more than ammunition to the critics.
