Brian Thompson Killer: UnitedHealth Group CEO Reacts to ‘Celebration’ After Brian Thompson Murder: ‘Very Disrespectful’

The CEO of UnitedHealth Group has responded to the online celebration of Brian Thompson’s death.

CEO of UnitedHealth Group Andrew Witty responded to the social media celebration following the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and called it absolutely inappropriate, aggressive and very disrespectful. UnitedHealth Group is the parent company and UnitedHealthcare is the health benefits business of UnitedHealth Group.
Brian Thompson, 50, was killed by a masked man outside a New York hotel. The killer has not yet been arrested, but according to NYPD investigators, he could be a former employee or a disgruntled customer. Social media users, including doctors, journalists celebrated Thompson’s murder and began calling the murderer a “hero” as they recounted their experiences of being denied insurance compensation by the company, which which put many lives in danger.
In his speech to company staff, which was an internal video, Witty said: “You’ve seen a lot of media interest in this situation with a huge amount of misinformation and frankly offensive communication… People are writing things we just don’t do. I don’t recognize…”
“I would like to give you a little advice regarding the media… My strong advice and request to everyone is to not interact with the media. If you are approached, I would recommend that you do not respond and, if necessary, just refer them to our own media organization.

Company Removes Brian Thompson’s Photo From Its Website

The UnitedHealthcate website has removed Brian Thompson’s photo and biography from the site. Many other health care companies followed the same path and preemptively deleted photos and biographies of their top executives, with Thimpson’s death terrifying health insurance company executives.
This brazen killing and its shameless celebration on social media surprised everyone because it reflected public anger against the healthcare sector. According to experts, the killer may not be a professional hitman because his firing appears unprofessional; but it was not an act of momentary rage. Investigators said it was a premeditated murder because the killer was well aware of Brian Thompson’s movements. The bullet casings he fired had three words engraved on them: deny, defend and file – a tactic deployed by health insurance companies to reject insurance claims.
