Star batter Virat Kohli clashed with on-field umpire Richard Illingworth after Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was controversially challenged, following India’s DRS call for an LBW. Illingworth had initially given Marsh not to get out after Ravichandran Ashwin’s delivery hit him on the mat. The third umpire, Richard Kettleborough, said he had not found conclusive evidence to overturn Illingworth’s decision on the field, despite replays suggesting otherwise. Kohli was visibly miffed by the decision and he made sure to make his disappointment known to Illingworth.

In fact, Kohli reminded Illingworth of KL Rahul’s dismissal in the first Test. For the unversed, Rahul was bowled out controversially despite the bat and pad being close to the ball at the time of contact. On the contrary, the on-field umpire dismissed Rahul.

“The KL was the same in Perth, two tips. One was a bat and the other was a pad,” Kohli told Illingworth.

Travis Head blazed a sparkling 140 as Australia were dismissed for 337 to take control of the second day-night Test against India on Saturday.

Resuming from 86-1, they were all out at third after tea with Marnus Labuschagne scoring a 64 to give them a first-innings lead of 157.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers with 4-61 while Mohammed Siraj grabbed 4-98.

Australia are looking to level the five-match series after a crushing 295-run defeat in the first match in Perth.

It was a typically flamboyant shot from Head on his home turf and in front of a large crowd cheering him on.

Batting for five, the 30-year-old scored almost a run-a-ball, slamming 17 fours and four sixes as Australia responded to India’s 180.

Head eventually succumbed to a raging, clean-bowl Siraj, with the pair trading angry barbs in succession before the cue was mopped up.
