JACKSON, MI – Jackson Lumen Christi defeated Jackson United by a final score of 5-0 Friday night at the Optimist Rink.

Lumen Christi’s Brodie Gregory opened the scoring in the game with a goal at 5:01 in the first period.

Gregory tapped in the rebound of a puck that had bounced off the boards behind the net.

Sam McCormick assisted on the Titans’ goal.

Jack O’Shea scored just 47 seconds into the second period off an assist from Gregory during a two-on-one break to make it 2-0 for Lumen Christi.

“I passed it to Brodie and as soon as I saw that defenseman, I rushed on the ice,” O’Shea said.

Lumen Christi made it 3-0 with 3:44 left in the second period as O’Shea fed Isiah Dinverno who fed Luke DuMont, who scored on a backhand.

The Titans then added two goals in the third period.

Josh DuMont found the net with a slap shot from the left faceoff circle, assisted by O’Shea and Isaac Rehberg.

Luke DuMont scored an unassisted goal on a wrist shot with just over a minute left to make the final score 5-0 for Lumen Christ.

Luke DuMont put another puck in the net late in the first period, but the net came loose from its moorings moments before, negating the goal.

The Titans dominated Jackson United 34-12 in the game.

Despite the pressure, Jackson United goalkeeper Jonah Hughes kept things tighter than they otherwise might have been with 29 saves.

Lumen Christi goalie Zach Jaakkola stopped all 12 shots he saw.

“Our offense made some counterchecks and our defense played great defense,” O’Shea said. “Thanks to Zach Jaakkola for making all those saves. We just kept going down the ice making every shot we could.

The Titans are off to a 3-0-1 start to the season with wins against Gibraltar Carleson and the Eastside Stars as well as a draw against Carleson on Thursday.

Jackson United’s record now stands at 3-2-0.

Jackson Lumen Christi will play Chelsea at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, while Jackson United will face Richland Gull Lake at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
