Municipal MLAs step up citizen engagement ahead of civic elections in Pune | Pune News

Pune: Newly elected municipal MLAs are doubling down on business in their bid to resolve day-to-day problems in their respective constituencies, with civic elections awaited for over two years now.
New Kasba Peth MP Hemant Rasne recently visited various chronic landfills and areas facing water supply problems in his constituency. Wadgaon Sheri MLA Bapu Pathare also held a meeting with the civic chief to expedite the long-pending Shivane-Kharadi road project to help streamline traffic in his constituency.
Kothrud MP Chandrakant Patil, during his recent visit to Baner and Balewadi areas, ordered the city police to increase vigil on tekdis. He also ordered the police to take action against motorists who drive rashly. Shivajinagar MP Siddharth Shirole held meetings with residents and said completion of ongoing infrastructure projects in Shivajinagar was his priority.
Citizens said getting basic services like adequate water supply, better roads, footpaths without encroachments and daily garbage collection was becoming a task. Rasne said he was developing a comprehensive plan to make Kasba Peth constituency waste-free. “We are starting with a cleanliness drive. There are many historical places in Kasba Peth, which people visit from different parts of the country. Our aim is to keep all the places and surroundings clean. PMC will have to play a key role in this. . We are in contact with the municipal administration,” Rasne said.
In Pune, of the total 11 MLAs, barring Rasne and Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, most have represented their constituencies for at least one term. Pune Cantonment MP Sunil Kamble, who is starting his second consecutive term, said his priority was to complete the road and flyover projects. “There are certain issues in the constituency which will require support from the state and central governments,” Kamble said.
Khadakwasla MP Bhimrao Tapkir said he recently organized a meeting of former societies of his constituency to seek feedback on various projects.
