Mike Tyson and Jake Paul SUSPENDED after their controversial clash in which fans slammed the Netflix fight for ‘elder abuse’ and calling it a ‘sad shame’

Mike Tyson and Jake Paul have been suspended following their controversial clash in Texas on Friday night.

The two men faced off over eight uneventful rounds at AT&T Stadium, which ended with the YouTuber-turned-boxer winning by unanimous decision.

However, after the night’s action, the two now face a period apart, but not because of their actions in front of a packed crowd or the millions watching on Netflix from around the world.

This is because of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation requiring fighters to observe a rest period after fights to ensure their safety.

In most combat sports, fighters must stay out of the ring for at least seven days.

The regulations state that three additional days are added to the suspension for each additional round played. While Tyson – or Paul for that matter – would have been laid off for 60 days if a knockout had been achieved.

Paul was victorious over the former heavyweight champion, who was competing in his first professional fight in 19 years.

“Medical disqualification of a competitor is for his or her own safety and may be made upon the recommendation of the examining physician or the TDLR (Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation),” the rule states.

“A competitor who disagrees with a medical disqualification, medical suspension or rest period set at the discretion of a ringside physician or with a disqualification or suspension set by the department may request a hearing to prove his aptitude.”

This perhaps better explains why Paul did not deal a serious blow to his opponent, 31 years his senior, during the confrontation when he was clearly in an ascendant position.

Tyson, 58, could not match Paul’s energy and his condition worsened throughout the eight rounds. The YouTuber sensationally revealed after the fight that he had decided not to knock out the former heavyweight champion.

In the final 10 seconds of the fight, he even stepped back and bowed to Tyson as a sign of respect to sporting royalty – while effectively taking his foot off the accelerator.

When asked if he calmed down after noticing Tyson was tired, Paul replied: “Yes, definitely. Certainly a little. “I wanted to put on a show for the fans, but I didn’t want to hurt anyone who didn’t need to be hurt.”

Speaking to Mail Sport after the fight, Jake’s brother Logan said of Tyson: “I think Jake let him live.” He added: “He’s tough, proud of himself, weathered the storm against a young bully named Jake Paul.”

The disappointing spectacle prompted some boos upon arrival, while many who watched the clash online were left feeling empty at the sight of the veteran.

Jake Paul, 27, admitted he took matters into his own hands with the veteran after realizing he was tired

The YouTuber even lost to his 58-year-old opponent in the final stages of the fight.

KSI, who fought Paul’s brother Logan in 2019, described the Texas fight as “elder abuse.”

Tyson was only in action for 16 minutes on Friday. But to those watching him circle the ring with a brace on his right knee, it seemed much longer. At one point, “he’s 58” started appearing on X in reference to Iron Mike’s age.

KSI, who fought Paul’s older brother Logan in 2019 and correctly predicted the duel would not be a contest, called the event “elder abuse.”

“What a sad watch,” he wrote on Instagram. “It was all sad. Mike Tyson is twice the age of Jake Paul ffs. It would NEVER be close. I can’t believe this elder abuse was even punished. Simply disgusting.

The veteran was competing in his first professional duel in almost two decades and it showed as he couldn’t keep up with the pace of his much younger opponent.

The statistics only confirmed what everyone already knew: Tyson landed only 18 of 97 punches, only four of which landed on Paul’s chest.
