The Supreme Court on Monday sought the CBI’s response to former media executive Indrani Mukerjea’s plea challenging a Bombay High Court order barring her from traveling abroad as she faces charges in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora.

The issue of travel restrictions came to the Supreme Court after a special court on July 19 allowed Mukerjea’s request to travel to Spain and the United Kingdom for 10 days in the next three months.

The CBI approached the High Court challenging the order passed by the special court. The High Court set aside the special court’s order on September 27.

Mukerjea moved the apex court challenging this order of the High Court.

A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar issued a notice to the agency and sought its response to the appeal filed by Mukerjea against the High Court order.

In her plea filed by lawyer Sana Raees Khan, Mukerjea said she was a British citizen as she sought permission to travel to Spain and her home country to “make necessary changes and amendments and take care of work in progress which cannot be carried out without his personal presence.” .

She argued that the activation of a digital certificate was essential for all relevant work and administration in Spain and that its physical presence was mandatory.

In its verdict, the High Court noted that Mukerjea wanted to travel abroad on the grounds that she was a British national and needed to sign documents regarding her bank account and carry out other work in Spain and the United Kingdom. United.

While setting aside the special court’s order, the High Court said that if Mukerjea wanted to execute these works from India, the statutory authorities of his country would provide necessary support with the help of the Spanish Embassy and of the United Kingdom.

Mukerjea was arrested in August 2015 after Bora’s murder came to light. She was released on bail by the Supreme Court in May 2022. She denied the allegations.

Bora (24) was allegedly strangled to death in a car by Mukerjea, her then driver Shyamvar Rai and her estranged husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012 in Mumbai. His body was then burned in a forest in the neighboring Raigad district, according to the prosecution.

Bora was Mukerjea’s daughter from his previous relationship.

The murder came to light in 2015 when Rai allegedly revealed it during police interrogation after his arrest in a separate case registered under the Arms Act.

Mukerjea’s ex-husband, Peter Mukerjea, was also arrested for allegedly participating in the murder conspiracy, which was being investigated by the CBI.

All accused are currently out on bail.
