The number had crossed 2.6 lakh a few months ago before the policy was scrapped and now, with just six days to file applications, the fewer number of applicants has made things easier for the department.

The department had asked teachers to reapply between December 1 and 15 due to the growing demand from certain sections of teachers, who were not happy with the embargo on all transfers and had their own reasons for that.

The fresh notification of transfer of the department due to urgent issues came after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced on November 20 that thousands of teachers appointed since 2006 by Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and urban local bodies ( ULB) would remain at their current duty stations. even after gaining government employee status after passing skill tests.

Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth said that out of the total 545,182 teachers, the number of transfer applications for various reasons received was 33,227 till December 8, while it crossed 2.6 lakh in just a few days the last time requests were requested. .

“In the order of preference for transfer, the first priority goes to those suffering from incurable diseases (such as cancers), and this number is 163, followed by 456 suffering from serious illnesses, 1,522 disabled and 290 suffering autism/or special mental disorders In addition, there are 216 requests from widowed or divorced teachers, 2919 requesting transfer on the basis of secondment from their. spouse in another location.

“However, a maximum of 27,661 teachers requested transfer due to the distance between the current posting location and the desired location. We will consider all requests in order of preference,” he added.

Siddharth said the process would begin soon after the last date of receipt of applications to allot new posts to these teachers in the order of preference, with the neediest ones getting first priority.

“We now know how many teachers actually need a transfer and we will do so accordingly. We do not expect any major change in the numbers in the next 4-5 days. The numbers are manageable and it can be done virtually using software,” he added.

The Ministry of Education had finally presented its teacher transfer and posting policy in October, a demand that had remained dormant for over a decade and the process was to begin in December, but it was later suspended and the policy was abandoned.
