Sue Gray has had a government job offer withdrawn after demanding to be paid more daily than the Prime Minister.

SUE Gray was blocked from taking a new Number 10 job as “regional envoy” after demanding to be paid more daily than the Prime Minister.

Officials were so alarmed by the salary she was asking for that they were preparing to publicly declare that she was not getting value for her money.

She asked for what would have amounted to a pay raise from her previous salary as chief of staff, inside sources said.

The Prime Minister earns £166,786 a year.

Earlier this week it emerged that Keir Starmer’s former chief of staff had turned down an offer to become his new envoy to nations and regions.

But the Sun learned on Sunday that the offer was withdrawn by Number 10 because Ms Gray had demanded an exorbitant salary.

Ms Gray earned £170,000 a year in her previous role as chief of staff.

She insisted on a de facto salary increase to fill this new government position.

The envoy role is part-time – so although she would earn less than the prime minister each year, she wanted more money per day worked.

A Westminster source said: “Sue was concerned about money. »

Another source said: “Sue spent her time at No10 trying to cut everyone’s pay, but she wanted more money for herself. »

Ms Gray demanded a salary so high that a senior Cabinet minister would have to approve it.

The latest bitter row comes just a month after Ms Gray quit her role as No 10 chief of staff after it emerged she earned more than the Prime Minister.

Since then, she has spent months in talks with Downing Street over whether or not to take on the new envoy role.

Ms Gray should be given a seat in the House of Lords as a consolation prize.

The Sun contacted Ms Gray’s representatives for comment on Sunday.

The Labor Party declined to comment.
