“It was a tough decision and next March, when I would normally be preparing to go back up there, I will probably be crying,” she said (via The Sun).

“As much as I loved it all, I have a family at home and I realized I hadn’t spent a summer in 14 years with my family.

“So I did another series again because I couldn’t get through it,” Blethyn added. “But anyway, it’s about time, that’s all.”

It comes after Blethyn recently revealed what fans can expect from the final two episodes, including “problems with Detective Inspector Joe Ashworth”.

The documentary “will capture the extraordinary journey of Vera and its lasting influence on British crime dramas – set against the stunning backdrop of Northumberland, where the landscape became a character in its own right, this celebration honors the series’ remarkable legacy.”

Vera will return at 8pm on Wednesday January 1, 2025 on ITV1 and ITVX, while Vera: Goodbye pet will be broadcast at 9pm on Friday January 3 on ITV1.
