Wedding trip turns into drama: Friends escape bus crash, but one is in critical condition

Mumbai: At Sion hospital, parents and friends of a 22-year-old Mahtab Sheikh —one of four critical patients transferred from KurlaBhabha hospital after Monday’s BEST accident in Kurla – recalled how they narrowly avoided being in intensive care with him.
Alim Sheikh, a friend of Govandi, said many residents of Mahtab village in Bihar live in a close-knit community. They were visiting Kurla for a wedding.
“Mahtab was walking with some of his relatives on the side road where the accident happened while my family and I were on the other side of the same road,” Alim said.
Inzamam Sheikh, one of Mahtab’s relatives, was walking right next to him when the bus hit them both. While Inzamam escaped with abrasions on his leg, Mahtab was rushed to the intensive care unit of Sion Hospital.
“It’s hard to remember how it happened. We were both hit by the bus at the same time,” Inzamam said. -Eshan Kalyanikar
