Adam Sandler finishes filming Netflix sequel

Adam Sandler heads out of Merry Gilmore 2the Netflix sequel having recently completed principal photography.

The star was the guest of Dan Patrick Show episode aired on Friday, in which he revealed that filming on the film had wrapped that day. Directed by Kyle Newacheck, the sequel to the 1996 comedy stars Sandler as the unlikely titular golfer and has yet to announce a release date.

During the conversation, Patrick explained that he was on set a day before filming an appearance. When Patrick asked Sandler when the film might be available to stream, the guest replied, “I don’t know 100%, but I’m thinking around July.” Not July 4th, but we’re trying to get it done in time for July. You never know what will happen. We just finished today – it’s the last day.

Regarding the pressure he feels to live up to the original film, Sandler said: “A lot, I want it to be great.” He added: “It’s in your mind. We’ve got a lot of good stuff going on, and we just want to make sure it all comes together and keeps it going from start to finish, and that’s the goal. We’ll see. We’re really nervous, but we feel a kind of confidence.

Sandler also teased a few cameos from the film, including an appearance from Eminem. “Eminem was cool. He came and he was great,” Sandler explained. “I’ve known Eminem for a long time and he’s a great guy. He came in and was funny as hell. I think we had a day with Eminem, and he just pulled and pulled, and it was crazy. I said a million things we can use and a million things we’re happy to have on tape.

The star also confirmed that golf legend Jack Nicklaus was among the prominent names in the sport to appear in the project. “He came for a few days — all these great golfers came,” Sandler said. “They did a great scene and we all had a great time together. He was amazing and his wife was awesome. In the scene, I’m sitting next to Jack, so I got to talk to him, and he was so nice to me, man.

Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen and Ben Stiller will return from the first film directed by Dennis Dugan, who serves as executive producer of the sequel and also reprises his role as golf tour commissioner. New additions to the cast include Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley and Scott Mescudi, as well as cameos from Travis Kelce and golfer John Daly.

Sandler, Tim Herlihy, Robert Simonds and Jack Giarraputo return as producers for the sequel. Sandler and Herlihy wrote the screenplay for Merry Gilmore 2 after writing the original screenplay for the film.
