10 Saginaw Area Men’s Basketball Players to Watch in 2024-25

The 2024-25 Michigan high school basketball season got off to an early start, marking the start of Thanksgiving week.

Many standout players from the Saginaw area got off to a fast start and showed why they are among the elite players in the Saginaw area.

Here are 10 Saginaw area boys basketball players to watch as the 2024-25 season begins.

Chad Brown, hemlock

Chad Brown teamed with Carter Gensch last season, giving Hemlock a solid 1-2 punch. But Gensch graduated, and the 6-foot-6 Brown became the focal point of the Hemlock team. As a junior, Brown averaged 15 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. Brown signed to play baseball for Central Michigan University.

Brad Coleman, Millington

Brad Coleman has already eclipsed the 1,000 point mark after scoring 581 points in his junior season to 1,355 entering his senior season at Millington. The 6-foot-2 senior averaged 24.2 points with 7.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals during his junior season.

Tristan Comer, Freeland

Tristan Comer continues to evolve into a dominant presence in the Saginaw area and Tri-Valley Conference. Comer, a 6-foot-6 junior, had a strong sophomore season, averaging 15.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.7 blocked shots and 1.5 steals per game for Freeland.

Jaylin Cooper, heritage

Jaylin Cooper averaged 10 points per game as a senior Heritage team last season, helping the Hawks win the Saginaw Valley League and District championships. The 6-foot-4 junior guard, who averaged 4.0 rebounds last season, shot over 50 percent from 2-point range and 40 percent from the 3-point line.

Tyler Dorsey, Saginaw United

Tyler Dorsey had a strong junior season for Arthur Hill, earning second-team all-Saginaw Valley League honors. The 6-foot-6 senior counts as an interior presence for a Saginaw United team dominated by guards. In the team’s first game, a loss to Detroit Catholic Central, Dorsey had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Di’Onquavious Hardy, Saginaw United

Boop Hardy, a 5-foot-10 point guard, is one of the star players trying to fit into a team in Saginaw United’s first season after the merger of Arthur Hill and Saginaw High. As a sophomore at Arthur Hill, Hardy averaged 15 points, 7.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Austin Long, Vassar

Austin Long had a breakout season as a junior, averaging 16.6 points for a Vassar team that was just 7-17. But the Vulcans started the 2024-25 season with three straight wins, with Long leading the way.

Wilson Huckeby, Freeland

Wilson Huckeby established himself as one of the best players in the Saginaw area during his sophomore season at Freeland. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 18.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 2.2 assists. Huckeby, who shot 39.6 percent from the 3-point line, led Freeland to the Tri-Valley Conference title last season.

Connor McGarry, Carol

Connor McGarry led Caro to a 13-10 record as a sophomore, with the Tigers winning their first three games this season. Last season, the 6-foot-1 guard averaged 19.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.9 steals.

TJ Stevenson, Saginaw United

During Saginaw High’s final basketball season, junior TJ Stevenson led the Trojans to a district championship. The 6-foot guard is one of the key players in Saginaw United’s first season. As a junior, Stevenson led Saginaw High in points (14.5), rebounds (6.7) and assists (8.2) per game for a team that finished 15-10 during the season.
